Abstract
This paper is an extract from the article, ‘Poverty, Proteins, and Disguise Starvation’. What is rationalization? What are the processes involved in rationalization? Self-justification, or rationalization of failure, are based on a number of rather convenient myths. What are the five myths which are used to provide the convenient justifications for failure to solve the problem of Malay backwardness? These myths have been consciously or subconsciously planted by the colonial administrators over the years to cover their unwillingness to solve the rural development problems. And unfortunately, these myths have influenced the successors. Today, the educators, scholars and other elites need to play an important role. They need to create a correct intellectual atmosphere to educate the authorities to look at the real image with a clearer and rational mindset. This effort should also be expanded to the rural area. It will create greater enthusiasm for acceptance of science innovations and rejection of traditional ideas and beliefs which have been the obstacles of economic development.
